The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oecd-ilibrary.org\/docserver\/9789264252462-en.pdf?expires=1530013230&amp;id=id&amp;accname=guest&amp;checksum=556F64BCFC58B20375EBBD9C5768FD21\">guidance<\/a> includes separate chapters on engaging with indigenous peoples, women and workers and trade unions.<\/p>\n<p>The guidance explains that engaging with stakeholders makes good business sense in that it can contribute to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>attaining a \u201csocial licence to operate\u201d and facilitating current and future operations by the extractive industries<\/li>\n<li>early identification of risk at the site of extractives operation<\/li>\n<li>avoiding costs through dealing with issues before they may arise, instead of a costly process of repairing lost trust after an incident occurs<\/li>\n<li>avoiding the costs of conflict arising from lost productivity due to temporary shutdowns caused by protest.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div
